After a courageous battle with cancer, David Michael Zappasodi went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 15, 2023. David was born on April 8, 1979, in Baltimore, Maryland. His family moved to Texas in 1990 and after growing up in Kingwood, David attended LeTourneau University to graduate with a degree in Computer Information Systems, as well as the University of Texas at Tyler to complete his MBA.
David met his high school sweetheart, Becca and they were married December 16, 2000. They have four precious sons, Micah David, Grant Samuel, Cameron Luke and Jett Michael. Those who know David know that he was a man of strong faith and love for his family. He coached baseball for all four boys and was often found playing noon ball at the local basketball courts. He launched two small businesses: A health insurance brokerage and a software consulting business, as well as helped start Arrow Christian Academy to support hundreds of homeschool families. He was a man of integrity, honor, and truth. Many have shared with us that David was their favorite coach, co-worker, teammate and friend, holding the utmost respect and admiration for the way he lived and served others.
David loved to work hard and play hard through sports, wood working, being out on the lake, studying God’s word, cooking & grilling, and especially sharing a table with friends and family. He was a wonderful husband and father and is also survived by his parents David & Adel Zappasodi, brother Matthew Zappasodi, wife Emily and their children, Luca, Leo, Olivia and Emilia, sister-in-law Katie Zappasodi her children Ava, Mia, and Eli and numerous other family members including Uncles, Aunts, cousins and friends. David is preceded in death by his brother Anthony Zappasodi, Grandparents Samuel & Diane Zappasodi and Joseph & Patricia Kammerer.
We are grateful for the support of so many of you as you have called, written, donated, visited, hugged, and cried with us. You have been our tribe who has upheld us in the valley. The verse the Lord gave us in the beginning of this journey was Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Our trust was never in God healing David on this earth. We wanted his healing. We asked the Lord for more time with David, knowing if this was His will to heal David on earth, he would be healed. But ultimately our trust is in the goodness of the Lord, in spite of how many days we are given on this earth. The Lord has reminded our family and friends that trusting in the name of the Lord and His character is the only rock upon which to stand when the sand is shifting beneath our feet.
We are truly grateful for the gift God gave us with David and the confidence we have that he is in the presence of His Savior, enjoying a glory that our minds cannot yet fathom. This has been a reminder to us of how short and fleeting life is. Our prayer is that you would also know Jesus Christ as your Savior. The natural depravity of man through sin has separated us from a holy God. We cannot earn favor with God. Instead we must rely upon and place our faith and trust in Jesus’s righteousness. When the lawyer Horatio Spafford penned the lyrics to the hymn It is Well, he said it beautifully:
My sin, O the bliss of this glorious thought. My sin, not in part, but the whole
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul
We love you dearly and are grateful for the impact you have had in David’s life.
